Sodium Chloride

Density and shale inhibition from the simplest brine there is.

Base fluid Water-based: Standard use Oil / synthetic: Conditional Brine-based: Standard use

Sodium chloride is the most economical way to build density and inhibit reactive shale in a water-based system. Saturated NaCl brine also prevents washouts when drilling through salt sections, where a fresh-water fluid would dissolve the formation out from under the bit.

Principal Industrial Uses

Where it's used, and why.

Drilling & Completion Fluids

Builds fluid density, inhibits shale hydration and swelling, and prevents salt-section washout in saturated brine systems.

Water Treatment

Regenerates ion-exchange resin in commercial and industrial water softening systems.

De-Icing & Industrial

Road and site de-icing, plus a feedstock for chlor-alkali and general industrial process chemistry.
